Gemotions

The scent of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen, mingling with the aroma of strong coffee. Sarah hummed along to the radio, expertly kneading dough on the countertop. Her movements were fluid and practiced, her brow clear and unlined, her mind focused only on the task at hand. The rhythmic thump of the dough, the warmth of the oven, created a sense of contentment that spread through her like a warm blanket.

A knock, insistent and jarring, echoed from the front door. Sarah sighed softly. It was Mr. Henderson, the eternally grumpy neighbor. She could already guess the subject of his complaint.

"Sarah!" he boomed, standing on her doorstep. "That infernal drumming! It’s unbearable!"

Sarah’s shoulders slumped slightly, a brief flicker of annoyance crossing her face. "Oh, Mr. Henderson," she replied, her voice calm and even. "I apologize. I'll ask my son to quiet down." She closed the door, the smell of bread still comforting.
